Don’t Let a Simple Tune-Up Turn Into an Expensive Repair | Yamaha WaveRunner Annual Service

Preventative maintenance can mean the difference between a great day on the water and an unexpected, expensive repair. This Yamaha WaveRunner came in for its annual service, and our technician uncovered several issues that show exactly why routine maintenance should never be skipped.
What We Found During the Annual Service:
During the inspection and tune-up, our technician discovered water sitting inside two of the spark plug wells. All four spark plugs also showed significant corrosion. The battery’s original hold-down strap was missing, and it appeared that zip ties had previously been used to secure the battery. We recommended replacing it with the correct battery hold-down assembly for improved safety and security.

Corrosion around spark plugs can make future removal difficult and may contribute to ignition or performance concerns. Water inside the spark plug wells can also affect the ignition components and should be addressed before it leads to additional damage.
An Oil Filter Dating Back to 2022:
The removed Yamalube oil filter had a service sticker dated October 2022. This is another reminder that maintenance should be based on the manufacturer’s recommended service intervals and the amount of time the vessel has been sitting—not only on how often it is used.

Engine oil and filters can degrade over time, even when a personal watercraft has not accumulated many operating hours. Routine oil changes help protect internal engine components and maintain proper lubrication.

Finding moisture in this area during a routine service allowed the technician to document the concern and address it before it caused more serious ignition-system problems.
WaveRunner Serviced, Tested, and Ready for the Water
Our technician completed the annual service by replacing the spark plugs, changing the engine oil and filter, and performing a thorough inspection of the WaveRunner. After servicing, the engine was started, tested, and verified for proper operation.
With the annual maintenance completed, this Yamaha WaveRunner is ready to get back on the water. Routine service like this helps improve reliability, protect critical engine components, and reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns, giving owners greater confidence every time they head out.
At Rev Tech Marine, we take pride in providing thorough, professional marine maintenance so our customers can spend less time worrying about repairs and more time enjoying their time on the water.
Why Annual WaveRunner Maintenance Matters
Annual maintenance is about more than changing the oil. It gives a trained marine technician the opportunity to uncover hidden corrosion, moisture, loose or missing hardware, aging ignition components, fuel concerns, and other developing problems.
Routine maintenance can help:
✔️ Catch corrosion before it damages expensive components
✔️ Reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns
✔️ Improve engine reliability and performance
✔️ Protect internal engine components
✔️ Extend the life of your personal watercraft
✔️ Help prevent small problems from becoming costly repairs
The cost of preventative maintenance is usually far less than the cost of repairing damage caused by neglected service.
